How to backup your Inventory
- To back up to a floppy disc put the disk in the A: drive (but see
later). Click File then Backup Data on the top menu bar. A dialogue
box opens. Click the dropdown arrow in Select a Drive to see a list
of drives. Select the A: drive and then click Backup. You will get a
message confirming that the backup was successful. Remove the disc.
- To backup to your hard disc, click File then Backup Data on the top
menu bar. A dialogue box opens. Click the dropdown arrow in Select a
Drive to see a list of drives. Select the c: drive. The first time you
run the program it opens up the path to the C:\Program Files\MyHomeInventory\Backups
directory. Click Backup to save it to this directory or choose another
location. You will get a message confirming that the backup was successful.
Remove the disc. If you save to a different location then by clicking
Save Path the Backup procedure will always open up to this location.
- As a matter of good practice we recommend that you always backup
to the hard disc (usually C:\). If you want to take a copy on removable
media (floppy, CD or Zip drive for example) for off-site storage, then
copy from the hard disc to a removable disc using Windows Explorer or
equivalent. This is because it is much more reliable copying to a hard
disk than to a floppy disc. Just note down where the file is backed
up to and what it is called when you backup to the hard drive.
- Files are automatically named with their date and time of creation.
